Celebration of the 75th Anniversary of Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between China and Indonesia and Commemoration of 70th Anniversary of Bandung Conference Held in Beijing

On April 21, the celebration the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Indonesia and the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the Bandung Conference, jointly hosted by the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) and the Indonesian Embassy in China, was held in Beijing. Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Defense Minister Dong Jun as well as Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono and Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin attended the event.

In his speech, Wang Yi said that China and Indonesia are friendly neighbors facing each other across the sea and good friends with a shared future. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations 75 years ago, the traditional friendship between the two countries has grown stronger over time, practical cooperation has yielded fruitful results, and bilateral relations have weathered storms and undergone trials, making remarkable achievements and leaving valuable experience. First, stay committed to head-of-state guidance. Second, stay committed to strategic independence. Third, stay committed to mutual benefit and win-win results. Fourth, stay committed to fairness and justice.

Wang Yi noted that seventy years ago, China and Indonesia worked hand in hand, making a historic contribution to the successful convening of the Bandung Conference. Today, both sides successfully held the First Ministerial Meeting of China-Indonesia Joint Foreign and Defense Ministerial Dialogue and established a China-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Dialogue mechanism, adding new dimensions to China-Indonesia relations in the new era. Under the new circumstances, China is ready to work with Indonesia to jointly carry forward the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and the Bandung Spirit, and continue to serve as a pacesetter for mutual trust and assistance between major and neighboring countries, an engine for the modernization of developing countries, and a promoter of openness, inclusiveness and win-win cooperation, sending the strongest message of greater strength through unity among the Global South.

Sugiono said in his speech that the Indonesia-China partnership is strong, and practical cooperation continues to expand. China has become a reliable development partner for Indonesia. In a world full of uncertainty, the two sides need to strengthen unity more than ever before. "People with one mind and heart have the power to move a mountain." Indonesia is willing to work with China to carry forward the Bandung Spirit and advance bilateral relations into a new era of common prosperity.

Attendees included Lu Kang, Vice Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee; Sun Weidong, Vice Foreign Minister; Yan Dong, Vice Minister of Commerce; Li Bin, Director of the Office for International Military Cooperation under the Central Military Commission of China; Zhou Pingjian, Vice President of the Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs; Zhang Jun, Secretary General of the Boao Forum for Asia; Agus Subiyanto, Commander-in-Chief of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI); Djauhari Oratmangun, Indonesian Ambassador to China; Vice Foreign Minister of Indonesia Abdul; Infrastructure Advisor to the President Andi Widjajanto; National Defense Advisor of Indonesia Sudrajat; Consultant to Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Irene; and diplomatic officials from the Indonesian Embassy in China, as well as representatives from various sectors of both countries and diplomatic envoys from some countries, totaling around 300 people. Yuan Mindao, Vice President of the CPAFFC, presided over the event.

During the event, the foreign ministers of both countries jointly unveiled the commemorative cover and stamp for the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Indonesia. The foreign and defense ministers of both countries also visited the photo exhibitions on the "75 Years of China-Indonesia Diplomatic Journey" and "Peace Envoy Zhou Enlai—Commemorating the 70th Anniversary of the Bandung Conference."
