On the morning of July 15, 2025, President Xi Jinping met with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, who is on an official visit to China, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
Xi Jinping once again congratulated Anthony Albanese on his re-election. Xi Jinping noted that thanks to the joint efforts of both sides, China-Australia relations have emerged from a low point and regained positive momentum, delivering real benefits to both peoples. The most important insight this gives the two sides is that treating each other as equals, seeking common ground while respecting differences, and mutually-beneficial cooperation serve the fundamental interests of both countries and peoples. No matter how the global landscape shifts, these principles should remain the guiding compass for both countries. As the China-Australia comprehensive strategic partnership enters its second decade, China is ready to work with Australia to further advance their relations for sound development and bring greater benefits to the two peoples.
Xi Jinping stressed that first, China and Australia should continue to enhance strategic mutual trust. China will not waver in its commitment to peaceful development, its vision of common development, and its policy of promoting cooperation and development in the Asia-Pacific. China advocates solidarity and cooperation among all countries, supports the building of a Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific and the liberalization and facilitation of trade and investment, and promotes regional peace, development and prosperity. Both sides should maintain a proper perception of each other and consolidate the foundation of mutual trust. Second, the two sides should deepen and expand mutually beneficial cooperation. China has been Australia's largest trading partner for 16 consecutive years, and trade with China has brought tangible benefits to Australia. The two sides should seek greater synergy of their development strategies, create a sound business environment for enterprises of both countries, foster more convergence of interests and areas of cooperation, and continuously raise the level and quality of cooperation. Third, the two sides should foster greater people-to-people friendship. The hearts of the two peoples are connected and their friendship is sincere. The Chinese side welcomes more Australians from all walks of life to visit China, and is ready to invite more Australian young people to China for exchanges and study, so that the tree of China-Australia friendship will grow more luxuriant. Fourth, the two sides should jointly address risks and challenges. In a volatile and turbulent world, all countries should work together to uphold international fairness and justice, safeguard multilateralism and free trade, defend the international system with the United Nations at its core and the international order based on international law, and make the international order more just and equitable.
Anthony Albanese said that Australia-China relations have made positive progress in recent years. Australia highly values its relations with China and is willing to work with China in the spirit of treating each other as equals, seeking common ground while shelving differences, and pursuing mutually beneficial cooperation to promote the development of Australia-China relations. This serves the common interests of both countries and contributes to regional stability and prosperity. Australia remains committed to the one-China policy and does not support "Taiwan independence". Australia is ready to maintain exchanges and dialogue with China at all levels to increase mutual trust. China's development is vital for Australia, and Australia never seeks to decouple its economy from that of China. Australia is willing to keep bilateral trade flows smooth and advance practical cooperation in green industries, climate response, medical technology and other fields to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results. Australia is also willing to strengthen people-to-people exchanges in tourism, education, sports and other areas to enhance mutual understanding between the two peoples. In the face of a world with intertwined changes and turbulence, Australia is willing to work with China to uphold multilateralism, support the United Nations in playing an important role, and jointly safeguard free trade and the rules of the World Trade Organization, so as to provide greater stability and certainty to the international community. Australia supports China in hosting APEC 2026.
